Michael Bouchard's "dismal voting record" revealed

Republican candidate for Congress missed voting in 72% of all statewide elections since being eligible to vote, according to state election records

— Michael Bouchard, Republican candidate for the United States Congress in Michigan's 10th district, has failed to vote in nearly three-quarters of all statewide elections since becoming eligible to vote, according to state voter records.

"Mike Bouchard is relying upon his family name to go to Congress, but can voters depend on him to show up and vote on the House floor?" asked Justin Kirk, Republican candidate for Michigan's 10th Congressional District. "Bouchard's dismal voting record is evidence of a candidate not willing to perform the most basic duty in our form of government."

Bouchard, according to Michigan's Qualified Voter File, has voted in five out of eighteen statewide elections. He failed to vote in every election between November 2016 and February 2024. He voted in the November 2012 general election, the March 2016 presidential primary election (absentee), the November 2016 general election, the August 2024 primary election, and the November 2024 general election.

Kirk acknowledges Bouchard's honorable service in the United States Army during much of this period but notes that Bouchard's voting record falls far below the average of active-duty service members.

"Bouchard failed to vote for President Trump in the crucial 2020 election," Kirk said. "While many soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen made the effort to cast their absentee ballots for President Trump, Captain Bouchard was absent without leave when it came to voting."

Bouchard is a lifelong Oakland County resident hoping to represent the 89% of Macomb County voters in the 10th district. His father, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, ran in four elections that his son, Michael Bouchard, failed to vote in, meaning Bouchard voted for his father only 50% of the time. Justin Kirk is the only lifelong Macomb County resident running to represent the 10th district. Kirk voted for President Trump in all three elections when he was on the ballot.

"The first time Bouchard voted for President Trump was in November 2024," Kirk said. "While other members of the armed forces found time to cast their absentee ballots, even those without a parent on those same ballots, Mike Bouchard ignored all the programs the military provides to encourage voter participation. Neither President Trump nor Mike's own father could depend on him to cast a single vote in eight years. How can the voters of the 10th Congressional District depend on him to show up for us in Congress?"
